Find out how much Middletown Real Estate is worth

Middletown, Maryland, is a historic community nestled in the fresh air, scenic foothills of Middletown Valley, formed by Braddock and South Mountains some 55 miles outside of the nation's capital.

The town offers a perfect blend of rural and urban living. The spread out real estate, peppered with farms and spacious properties, is mixed with the no-nonsense attitude of farmers working the land, and executive and managerial professionals who commute to neighboring urban regions for work each day. The average household income in Middletown, where most residents hold a bachelor's degree or higher, is $77,179, which is more a third higher than the national average household income.

The area's affluent, educated residents care about education, and invest in local schools and children's recreation and education programs more than the average American community. Students here attend great public schools that are part of the Frederick County Public School District, home to several Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. National test scores are high among local high schoolers, and the vast majority of them not only graduate from high school, but go on to pursue a college education.

This quiet, low crime community offers a wide variety of real estate options, including single-family homes, and condominium and townhouses properties, many of which offer mountain, pastoral, or golf course views. The average home sold for just $495,868 in January 2006. Typically, the average home in Middletown is a three or four bedroom single-family home built since the 1950s.

Sprawling estates are available in the price range of $825,000 to $1.3 million, including some farms. There are also a few historic homes for sale, as well as land for custom building. Prices for single-family homes range from $170,000 to more than half a million. A limited number of two-bedroom condominium and townhouse units are available for as low as $100,000.

The town was settled in the late 1700s, has beautiful views and plenty of outdoor recreation, including a number of great parks and golf courses. Legend has it that as a young lieutenant, George Washington surveyed the area and called the Middletown Valley one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen.

Modern advantages of living in Middletown include clean air, good public schools, low crime, access to a variety of shopping, dinning and outdoor recreation, and a growing local economy. Unemployment in the twin communities is much lower than the national 5 percent. Recent job growth has been faster, and economists predict that local future job growth will outpace the national average by more than 14 percent.
