Marlton Real Estate

Marlton, a diverse, prosperous neighborhood of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, covers about six square miles and is home to just about 8,000 residents. It is located about 16 miles outside of Washington, DC in Prince George's County.

The area is populated but spread out, and was developed after the 1960s. Most of the real estate in Marlton is made up of established single-family homes of three of four bedrooms. There is some also new construction, older homes, and even a handful of historic houses.

As of January 2006, the median house sold for $340,000. A small segment of the local real estate market is made up of large, historic properties that combine country living with the conveniences and luxuries of modern living, and sell in the range of $825,000 and $1.5 million. A mostly owner-occupied community, Marlton has fewer renters than the state average.

More than a third of Marlton's residents have a college degree. The area's median household income of $74,000 is significantly above state average. A prosperous neighborhood, Marlton benefits from lower than the state average unemployment, low crime rates, and higher than the state average home prices with an excellent appreciation rate.

Local residents send their children to K-12 schools that rank well among others in Maryland. More than 90 percent of high school students in the general area graduate, and about 50 percent go on to pursue a college education.

Marlton is a commuter community, with half of the population migrating during the day. The average commuter travels about 44 minutes to reach his or her work place. Big employers are the federal agencies of the nation's capital, numerous medical and research institutions in Maryland suburbs of Washington, and technology companies in the general region.
