A popular community among families with children, this area of more than 30,000 residents is known for its friendly, peaceful neighborhoods and excellent schools.
Prince William County public schools were the first in Northern Virginia to receive a Medallion of Excellence from the United States Senate in 1998. Students here consistently score well on national standardized exams, and most graduate from high schools. The county is also home to many excellent institutions of higher learning, such as the George Mason University Institute for Advanced Technological Study.
An area rich in nature, Lake Ridge is crossed like a triangle by three creeks: Little Occoquan Run, Hooes Run, and Airport Creek. The community is also home to a park, and two reservoirs. Fall is a beautiful season here. Lake Ridge offers its residents many other amenities, such as boat ramps, golf courses, swimming pools, tennis courts, and softball fields. Several shopping centers – including the massive outlet mall at Potomac Mills – are located within and near the community.
Lake Ridge is a fairly densely populated neighborhood developed since the 1960s. Most properties are brick row houses and single-family homes averaging three or four bedrooms. There are also smaller units in newer apartment buildings.
The average home in January 2006, sold for $385,756. There are plenty of properties that sell for less. A few select homes are priced upwards of $1 million.
Industries that provide employment in the community include professional, scientific, administrative, educational, health and social services, public administration, and retail trade. Many Lake Ridge residents commute to and from neighboring Northern Virginia suburbs or Washington, DC, for work.
