Jefferson Real Estate

The community of Jefferson, Virginia, is an affordable section of the larger Falls Church area in Northern Virginia. Located just a 15-minute drive away from the nation's capital, this is a popular community among homebuyers who work in Washington. The area's history dates back to the late 1600's when it was an early colonial settlement shared with Native Americans.

About 27,000 residents of various cultural backgrounds call Jefferson home. Most own their home, and all enjoy high quality of life in a neighborhood of low crime and prestigious K-12 public schools. Students here benefit from a favorable teacher to pupil ratio and perform very well on national standardized tests. Most students not only graduate high school but typically go off to pursue a college degree.

Most homes in Jefferson sell in the range of $170,000 and $330,000, although a few properties sell for upwards of half a million. The market is made up single-family homes, mostly in colonial style in brick that have been built since the 1960s. Larger and older homes are also available. While Falls Church residents on average pay close to $500,000 for a home, residents moving into Jefferson are looking at purchasing a similar home for closer to $270,000.

Jefferson covers five square miles. It offers residents a couple of shopping malls, complete with cinemas and restaurants, four parks, and their own community recreation center.

Nearby half of Jefferson residents have a bachelor's degree or higher. The average household income here is about $70,000. Unemployment among Jefferson residents is much lower than the national average. Recent job growth here is three time as high as nationwide, and competitive salaries are offered by the region's medical and research facilities (in nearby Maryland's Interstate 270 corridor), the spread out Northern Virginia technology sector, and Washington's conglomeration of federal government agencies.
