Find out how much Hyattsville Real Estate is worth

Hyattsville, Maryland, is a densely populated community of some 16,000 residents located just nine miles outside of Washington, DC, inside the Beltway. The community enjoys easy access to Washington and Baltimore via two metro stations leading to downtown Washington, and a commuter train that runs to Baltimore. Most residents are employed in managerial or executive positions, or work for the federal government. The average household income in low crime Hyattsville is about $50,000.

The affordability of living in Hyattsville combined with its proximity to culture, history, outdoor recreation, and entertainment sites makes it a desirable place to live. That is one of the reasons CNN/Money and Money magazine last year listed Hyattsville among the best places to live, nationwide.

The average property in Hyattsville sells for about $215,000, which typically buys a single-family home of three or four bedrooms built in rambler or colonial style. Most properties here are well established, dating back to the mid-1990s. There are also historic homes, and units in apartment complexes.

The vast majority of homes sell in the range of $170,000 and $330,000. A few select larger homes sell for more, and about a tenth of the market is comprised of properties that sell for under $170,000.

Hyattsville youngsters attend well performing public schools served by Prince George's County. The area also has a number of quality private schools. Higher education is easily accessible at a number of nearby colleges, including the University of Maryland's College Park.

Hyattsville is named after Christopher Clarke Hyatt, who settled here in the mid-1800s. The city's historic district is home to a number of Victorian houses built in the late 1880s and Sears bungalows and Arts & Crafts houses built between the late 1910s and early 1940s. A large portion of the city is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the city has a number of active preservation groups that organize walking tours to view historic homes and other sites.
