Find out how much Great Falls Real Estate is worth

Great Falls is a community of 29 square miles rich in history and nature, just a short driving distance from Washington DC. A highly affluent suburb, Great Falls is located along the Potomac River at the fall line and is home to some of the capital's best known movers and shackers. Home lots are large – some more than 10 acres – and many have horse riding rings, particularly those occupied by older homes. The median house value here is $1.0 million.

The suburb of Great Falls enjoys a high quality of life, from low crime rate to excellent schools. Its proximity to cosmopolitan Washington, numerous parks and the Potomac River, regional historic sites and monuments, and excellent air quality create an ambiance that is a pleasure to live in.

The area was not developed until the 1960s, so most homes here are fairly new. The majority is large dwellings of more than four bedrooms, and owner occupied single-family homes. While there is some real estate available for less than $500,000, most of it ranges between $825,000 and $1.7 million.

Great Falls is on the border of Fairfax and Loudon counties, and about 20 miles northwest of Washington. A local village center offers quaint shops and fine restaurants. The community is also near shopping meccas such as the Tysons Corner shopping mall and the Galleria at Tysons II.

The community's main attraction is Great Falls National Park, which overlooks the Great Falls of the Potomac, and for which the community and the park are named. The region also has historic gems, such as the Colvin Run Mill, an early 19th century operating gristmill that offers exhibits, daily tours, education programs, and outdoor concerts. Sidewalks and paths wind through the area's woods near the river, adding to the neighborhood's rural atmosphere.

Great Falls' proximity to so many outdoor activities makes is a heaven for nature lovers who can spend weekends picnicking, hiking, or just taking relaxed walks along the Potomac River, breathing in the clean air of the park. It is also one of the reasons why CNN/Money and Money magazine rank Great Falls, home to about 16,000 residents, high among the favorite retirement places in the Washington metropolitan area.
