A modern neighborhood built since the 1950s and having boomed since the 1980s, Dulles offers mostly new real estate. It is the capitol's gateway to the picturesque Shenandoah Valley, which lies only about 30 miles away from Dulles off Interstate 66. The Dulles community derived its name from the airport; the airport in turn takes its name from former United States Secretary of State John Foster Dulles.
