Clarksburg Real Estate

Clarksburg, Maryland, is a combination of the new and the old. The town was founded in 1752 and combines a charming rural ambience with new neighborhoods and business parks. Some 3,000 residents call Clarksburg home.

The average property sold for $602,000 in January 2006, and is typically a three or four bedroom single-family home built in a colonial or rambler style some time since the 1960s. However, an average here is hard to pin down given the wide range of available properties, some of which are smaller and newer, while others are vast farm lands with ranch-like homes of at least five bedrooms. The latter sells for upwards of $1.7 million and does not come available every day.

Plenty of more modest but highly attractive properties sell in the range of $500,000 to $700,000. Many properties offer scenic views of the lush surrounding countryside. Clarksburg offers a few condominiums, in the range of $439,000 to $490,000.

As part of Montgomery County, residents of Clarksburg can send their children to prestigious K-12 public schools. Individual teacher to student attention is prized and expected here, and in part accounts for why local high school students consistently score high on national standardized tests and are likely to not only finish high school but go on to college. Montgomery County also offers its residents education in private schools, which are also good performers.

Clarksburg, which is a quiet, scarcely populated neighborhood, offers its residents a quiet life in a low crime environmental. Historic sites and monuments are scattered throughout the region, and shopping and dining are locally available. Residents are well educated, with at least half of them having a bachelor's or higher degree. This translates into an average local household income of more than $100,000, which is more than twice the national average.

Golf lovers are happy in Clarksburg, with its 18-hole par 72 course and driving range. Nature lovers can enjoy camping, hiking, and picnicking at the local Little Bennett Regional Park, which features 91 campsites.
