Capitol Heights and Coral Hills, Maryland are neighboring communities that share a zip code within Prince George's County. Together, they have a population of about 20,000 residents, with Coral Hills being the smaller of the two neighborhoods.

Home to a diverse population of families, young single professionals, and some college students and retirees, Capital Heights and Coral Hills offer their residents a variety of recreation options from shopping and dinning to activities in parks and weekend festivals. The average income for a household in either community is about $48,000, or on par with the national average.

Most homes here were built between the 1960s and 1980s, but there are also established older homes. The average property sells for about $203,000 and is a three or four bedroom single-family home built in colonial style. The education needs of Capital Heights and Coral Hills youngsters are met by the Prince George County Public School District, which boasts good graduation rates for its public schools. Quality private schools can also be found in the area.

These quiet, relatively low crime communities offer their residents easy access to the nation's capital via the Capitol Heights metro station, which has been open since 1980. This is very convenient for residents who are employed by the federal government and commute to the nation's capital each day.

Coral Hills and Capital Heights boast a number of active citizen groups that work on behalf of the communities to on issues ranging from after-school programs for kids to park clean up operations. One local group has won national recognition for its community policing, after-school programs, and access to affordable housing in Capital Heights.
