Burke Real Estate

Burke is a growing suburb located about 10 miles southwest of Washington, DC. Residents enjoy the opportunity of sending their children to the Fairfax County Public School System, continuously ranked as one of the very best in the nation. They are also blessed to live in an area with tree-lined streets, exceedingly low crime, and plenty of shopping and dining venues.

Burke experienced a growth boom for two decades starting the 1960s, and most homes date to that time. Some new housing is available, however. Most of the real estate is attached homes or row houses, of three or four bedrooms. Almost all real estate is owned, are there are some rental units, and communities that mix renters with owners.

Burke residents are highly educated, as defined by the percentage of people with a master's degree or higher. Local K-12 students are bright, score high on national tests, and most of them go on to pursue a college degree. There are plenty of nearby higher education institutions, including George Mason, George Washington, and Georgetown universities.

Burke is a good place to buy a home. The median household income is close to $100,000 per year, one of the highest in the country. The median home value is $273,000. The vast majority of homes sell for somewhere between $170,000 and $330,000, although homes going for up to half a million are also available.

Aside from being minutes away in driving distance from the nation's cosmopolitan capitol, Burke is close to various national parks, the Potomac River, a handful of some of America's oldest towns, plenty of Civil War battlegrounds, and smaller local recreational centers, parks, and amenities. Outdoor festivals, artisan fairs, farmers' markets, and other events for adults and kids to enjoy together are frequently held on weekends, and some run for as long as a week.

Most of Burke's 60,000 residents either work in neighboring Northern Virginia communities, or commute into nearby Washington. Jobs in the region are plentiful, as Northern Virginia is one of fasting growing, thriving regions of the United States. More than 1.8 million people living in four counties – Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William – are employed by the federal and local government, hundreds of private subcontracting companies that work for the federal government, large international organizations, and Fairfax County's vast technology hub.
