Brunswick Real Estate

Brunswick, Maryland, is a city covering two square miles in Frederick County, with a population of about 5,500 residents. Established along the now-defunct Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, the town became a hub for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, who built a six mile long rail yard along the Potomac from 1891 to 1912. A century later Brunswick is much quieter. With its tree-lined streets, numerous parks and libraries, good local schools, and virtually low crime, it is a community that residents take great pride in calling home.

The real estate market here is varied. Since the Brunswick area was settled in the 1700s, plenty of older and historic homes can be found even today. Until the mid-1900s Brunswick was mostly farm lands, a few of which remain today and some of which are also available for sale. The area experienced a construction boom between the 1960s and 1980s, and much new construction is taking place now.

The average home in Brunswick sells for about $188,000 and is a single-family home of three or four bedrooms built since the 1960s. However, the area also offers homebuyers a choice of row houses and some small apartment buildings. Properties sell mostly in the range of $100,000 and $500,000, although a few small properties are available for under $90,000, few estates sell for upwards of a million dollars.

Brunswick is a working class community predominantly made up of home owners. Most residents work in manufacturing or clerical and technical support. Some government employees also reside here, and have easy access to Washington, DC via the local commuter rail station.

The average income for a Brunswick household is just over $50,000, which is about $6,000 higher than the national average. Brunswick is thriving economically. More jobs are being created here than in the average American community, and while unemployment nationwide is 5 percent, it is only 3.4 percent in Brunswick.

Residents take advantage of close proximity to cosmopolitan cities like Washington and Baltimore, as well as the beautiful country side of rolling hills and mountains in Frederick County. Brunswick has several outdoor events throughout the year, including “Movies in the Park” during the summer, a large Veteran's Day Parade, and numerous museum events.
