Bladensburg Real Estate

Bladensburg is a densely populated Maryland suburb outside of the nation's capitol. Some 8,000 residents here live on a land area that is just one square mile.
Home to a culturally diverse population, Bladensburg lies along the Anacostia River. As of January 2006, the average home sold for $164,833. This price is relatively low compared to other Maryland suburbs where the average home can sell for more than half a million dollars.

Real estate in Bladensburg consists mostly of well established older homes. Historic homes can also be found along with newer units. The average home is a two bedroom single-family home property and is occupied by owners or renters. Residents here are families with children or without, young single professionals, and college students.

Bladensburg has a number of public schools, and boasts 95% graduation rate, despite a higher-than-average student to teacher ratio. More than half of high school students go on to pursue higher education.

Bladensburg, named after Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen, is also a good place to buy real estate because it is experiencing higher than national average job growth. This rate is expected to rise at an even faster pace in coming years. Unemployment here is lower than nationwide.

This community is an affordable neighborhood where the average commuter spends only 37 minutes driving to or from work each day. While this is higher than the nationwide average, it is considerably lower than the amount of time residents of other Washington suburbs spend driving. Because of its closeness to the Beltway, Bladensburg offers its residents alternative roadways and the chance to avoid interstate congestion.
